About our Draw Process
Here in New Mexico most tags are allocated through a state draw, with exception of bear, lion, OTC Aoudad hunts, private land only hunts and ranch elk authorizations. So, if you are planning a hunt here in New Mexico, most likely you will be putting in the draw at some point with us. Usually the draw opens up in January with deadline sometime in March. Here in NM we have 3 draw pools, residents, non-residents and outfitter pool. Basically, for the best chance to draw a tag you definitely want to put in the outfitter pool. To do this you must contact me to get my outfitter number to use when applying. Note it is law that I must do a contract with each hunter before they can put in under my outfit. My draw contracts will state the hunt choices to put in for (you get up to 3) and type of package you want if you draw. If putting in for multiple animals we must do one for each species. We do not take any deposits during this process; the only fee is $25.00 which you would mail to me with the draw contract. Note the fee is per person applying, so say you put in for all the animals in draw fee is still only the $25.00. Once we have your draw contract you can then apply online for your tags under the outfitter pool. Make sure you enter my outfitter number in correct box or you will not be entered in outfitter pool. For those of you who would rather have us take care of the whole draw process on your behalf, we do offer a service where we will put your application in for you. This will ensure everything is done right and you don’t have to worry about missing the draw deadline. The cost for us to take care of your draw application is $40.00 and again no matter how many animals you apply for with us it’s still only the $40.00.
Note that when applying in draw for any species you will be required to provide a credit card as Game and Fish will charge for full license which will be refunded minus a 13.00 application fee. Also, to be noted as of 2019 you must purchase a 65.00 general license and 10.00 habitat stamp before you can apply.
Draw is getting tougher and tougher each year and the outfitter pool is truly your best bet. We have all the draw percentages for the units we hunt in so feel free to contact us to talk about your best options in getting drawn.
